Hilda, being an unmarried mother, was sent packing from home by her mother, Etha.
Apparently Hilda's Aunt Doris, also a single mother 20 years earlier, took her in and provided for her and the her son George during the war. Hilda was obviously well thought of, as can be seen from the above certificates and letters on her service as a WW11 ambulance driver and member of the civil defence service.
