Granada Reports presenter Lucy Meacock was also on hand to help hand over the cheque and was keen to point out the advantages such an investment would bring to Chester.
She said: 'It's fantastic to see such extensive sports facilities in Chester'.
'Anyone who lives in the area will know there has been a serious gap in sports facilities for a long time and it is just what we need to help develop the stars of the future - hopefully some Chester City and Liverpool players!'

Grounds for celebration
CHESHIRE County Sports Club officials will continue to 'think big' following the opening of their new clubhouse.
Crewe Alexandra manager Dario Gradi, Football Foundation chairman Lord Pendry and Granada TV's Lucy Meacock were special guests at Sunday's grand opening ceremony.
Those involved with the club are now determined to press ahead with further improvements to the Upton site and they have the support of the Football Foundation. Club director Mark Fearon said: 'We're always moving forward and we're looking to develop the site even more. The standards get higher and we like to think big.' The construction of the clubhouse was part-funded by a £806,255 grant from the Football Foundation, with the money also being spent on the renovation of the existing pavilion and improved drainage, as well as the appointment of a permanent football development officer to work on site.
